LEE Sinnott bemoaned Altrincham’s luck after they turned growing pressure into a late equaliser but still ended up empty-handed at Dover on Tuesday night.

After berating his side for a lack of urgency in Saturday’s 4-1 home defeat by Wrexham, Sinnott was far happier with a battling performance that looked to have yielded a point when stand-in skipper Luca Havern made it 1-1.

But Dover snatched a last-gasp winner, much to the dismay of the Alty boss, who said: “I had a word with the players after Saturday’s game, because I was a bit annoyed. I told them they had a test of character coming up, travelling down to Dover and getting back home at some god-forsaken hour.

“The response was certainly what I was hoping for. I couldn’t fault their effort or endeavour, and if they keep showing that, we will win more than we lose over the remainder of the season.

“The pedal was pressed fully down on the floor, and it was particularly frustrating to be denied after scoring so late. The players gave their all, and those hardy souls who travelled to support us would back me on that.

“I don’t want it to sound like sour grapes, but it’s a bitter pill to swallow. Did Dover do enough to win it? I’d say not. Did we do enough to take something? 100 per cent.

“Some of the lads will have got home and taken the milk in with them, but that’s the lot of the part-time player at this level. We’ve got to take it on the chin and come back strongly against Halifax.”

Alty will wear one-off pink shirts against Halifax at The J.Davidson Stadium on Saturday in a fundraiser for cancer awareness. The shirts will be sold to the highest bidders, with replicas also available at £20 each.

Shaun Densmore faces several weeks out with what is thought to be a grade-one medial ligament injury, but Stuart Coburn (hamstring) and Simon Richman (dead leg) hope to be fit and Adam Griffin is available after missing Dover through work commitments.
