Grimsby Town 0 Altrincham 0

ALTRINCHAM returned from a long evening trip to Lincolnshire with a well-deserved point, which lifted them further away from the relegation places in the Vanarama Conference.

The home side started well and, for much of the first half, Altrincham were on the back foot. But hard work from the Alty defence and midfield, including an excellent stop from goalkeeper Coburn, kept the game goalless at the break.

Nevertheless, Altrincham had produced occasional threats at the other end as they counter-attacked with purpose. With James Lawrie out through illness and several other players under the weather, Altrincham continued to work hard after the break.

Goalkeeper Coburn made several more important stops in the second half and Grimsby also undermined their own cause with off -target shooting. Again, Alty counter-attacked on several occasions with a couple of Reeves headers and a Wilkinson shot keeping McKeown alert in the Grimsby goal.

Next up is a sequence of three home matches in the league. Woking are the visitors on Saturday, followed by Braintree (18th) and then Alfreton Town, ten days later. Before that Alty enter the FA Cup (25th) but their opponents are not yet decided.
