RUGBY Union club Trafford MV open their 2014/15 season with a home draw in the Lancashire Plate competition on Saturday - kick off 3pm. Once mighty Orrell are the visitors to MV's MacPherson Park, off Glebelands Road, Sale.

MV have worked hard in training and have performed well in pre-season fixtures against Windermere (won 5-59) and from a higher division Manchester (lost 43-33) and the spirit shown in both games at this early point in the season has been impressive.

MV have suffered an early blow however as Captain and scrum half Pat Eccles damaged knee ligaments and will be out for the first few weeks of the campaign. MV will not be deterred by this and their positive attacking game plan will remain in place.

Trafford MV's mini/junior section also open their season with coaching, most of the older groups Junior Rugby U16s, U12s, 13s and U14s starting on Sunday, August 31, at 10.30am.

The younger Mini Rugby age groups (Under 4s to Under 11s) and Junior U15's begin their training sessions on Sunday, September 7 at 10.30am.

The club is keen to attract local youngsters who want to be part of a traditional amateur rugby club where all players have an equal chance to play.

The club is traditionally a feeder for local senior clubs who continually benefit from the hard work put in by the dedicated coaches at Trafford MV in the early years development of local young players

MV continue to provide a structured coaching programme for players of all ages and abilities and new players are always welcome.

Training nights for senior players are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6.30pm for any further info please contact Wilf Dooley 01942 884542.
