A FIRE which broke out at Altrincham FC’s ground was caused by controlled burning which got out of hand, a fire service spokesman confirmed.
Firefighters from Altrincham, Sale and Wythenshawe fire stations were called to the Moss Lane ground at around 12.30pm yesterday, May 19.
Large plumes of smoke was seen billowing from the site, which led some to speculate that the stands themselves were on fire, but the blaze was in fact limited to a portable building within the grounds.
Crews had wrapped up the incident within an hour.
