BOSTON arrived at Moss Lane with their own aspirations to reach the play offs on Tuesday but, after 90 minutes of one-sided play, it was Altrincham who had firmly underlined their own promotion credentials.

The Robins' bright start was rewarded with a 12th minute goal as Damian Reeves rounded keeper Haystead, following good play on the left from Leather and Doughty.

But, just seven minutes later, with a rare attack, Boston equalised as Smith's effort from the edge of the box bounced off the underside of the crossbar into the net.

Duncan Watmore inspired Altrincham to regain their lead and settle the outcome before half time.

Cutting between two statuesque defenders, Watmore fed Richman who thumped his shot into the net, in the 35th minute. Four minutes later, Watmore himself made it 3-1.

And before half-time it was 4-1 as Densmore's freekick fed Doughty, whose cross was impressively headed home by Simon Richman. Newsham's bad miss just before the interval was the visitors' last chance to get back into the game.

Just four minutes into the second half, a fine move from the Alty by-line to the other end of the pitch ended when left-back Scott Leather scored impressively. Boston offered little by way of resistance before Reeves finished off Clee's cross in the 69th minute.

The scoring was completed on 85 minutes when substitute Ryan Brooke poked home Shaun Densmore's low crossfrom the right.

The final minutes were marred by two melees. From the first, Boston's Silk was shown a straight red and Alty's Nicky Clee was booked. And then Alty sub Patrick Lacey saw yellow for his rash challenge which prompted more pushing and shoving.

This was one of Alty's best performances of the season and consolidated their position in the play-offs. Next up is another home match when Gloucester City visit Moss Lane on Saturday (February 2).
