Trophy success for Bowdon

Trophy success for Bowdon Trophy success for Bowdon

BOWDON RUFC Under 11s team, pictured, came away from Manchester Rugby Festival on Sunday (October 14) with two trophies, much like their under 8s colleagues a week ago.

The Bowdon team emerged from the group stages with a place in the Shield following wins against Manchester, Blackburn and Ormskirk, only losing their 100 per cent record to a strong Waterloo side.

A tight but riveting semi-final saw them score with virtually the last play of the game to edge out Sefton, which set up a final showdown with Lymm.

The Bowdon team gave their all but were eventually beaten 2-0. As they received a runners-up trophy and their medals. Nick Swarbrick, one of the Bowdon coaches, said: “It’s been a long day for the boys, but it makes it all worthwhile when you see those huge grins on their faces.“ In a second triumph, Bowdon were awarded the overall 'fair play' award for the day. Receiving the honour, Bowdon head coach Christian James said, “For the under 11s to receive the award this weekend, and the under 8s to receive a similar award last week, just goes to show the ethos we have at Bowdon Rugby Club – give it your all................but it’s not about winning at all costs”.

Medals and trophies to all finalists were presented by players from Sale Sharks.
