Ice Hockey - Manchester Phoenix 4-3 Guildford Flames (After Overtime)

WINGER Joachim Flaten netted an overtime winner on Sunday night to propel Manchester Phoenix to the summit of the English Premier League.

Phoenix have now won their last six games and completed a back to back sweep over the reigning champions with a 4-2 win in Guildford the previous night.

Ex-Phoenix sniper Curtis Huppe gave the visitors the lead early in the first period after a Manchester mistake in their own zone, but Scott McKenzie brought Phoenix level mid way through the second period.

Michal Psurny grabbed his first of the night minutes later to give the home side the lead, but Nathan Rempel replied for the Flames before the second break.

Psurny restored Phoenix’s lead early in the third period and it looked to be the game winning goal, until Andrew Hemmings netted an equalizer in the final minute sending the game into overtime.

Both teams had power-play chances in the extra period but it was Phoenix who found the net in the 64th minute as Flaten fired in the sudden death goal.
