Martial arts competition
5:55pm Monday 15th October 2012 in Sport
MARTIAL arts students came together to compete in a competition held at a Cheshire high school.
Members of Gen ‘Dai Martial Arts club, which has groups in Partington and Urmston, battled it out to win trophies and medals in various disaplines, kata, team kata and kumite. Kata can be described as choreographed patterns of movements and kumite means sparing.
The team kata brought out a brilliant performance from the Partington team called ‘Katastrophic’ who took first place. Simon Griffiths won the men’s kumite and team kata.
Helen Darlington, winner of the senior kata and team kata, from the Urmston class, said: “The team kata was a great event to participate in. The strength of our team was in each individual member, and the strength of each member made the team perform effectively."
The club’s new group is held at G H Carnall Leisure Centre in Urmston and is open to men, women and children of all abilities. To find out more, contact Dave Shipton on 07771845779 or visit www.gendai.org.uk.
