BOWDON RUFC under-8s team, pictured, managed a double triumph at the Manchester Rugby festival on Sunday (October 7).

The Bowdon Rangers team came through the group stages with a 100 per cent record following wins against Warrington, Lymm, Caldy and Vale of Lune.

A pulsating semi-final saw them eventual 6-4 winners over their Manchester hosts, which set up a final showdown with Stockport.

After a tight but thrilling encounter, the game finished 3-3, with the honours being shared between two very exhausted but excited teams. Dave Edmundson, one of the Bowdon coaches said “It’s great to have a final with no losers.“ In a second triumph, Bowdon were awarded the overall 'Fair Play' award for the day.

Receiving the honour, Bowdon coach Mike Hayton said: “For this age group it goes to show that how you play the game is just as important as what you achieve.”.

Medals and trophies to all finalists were presented by Sam Tuitupou and “Sharky” from Sale Sharks.
