Bowdon Hockey

BOWDON Hightown travelled to London to play league leaders Surbiton on Saturday.

Surbiton were full of confidence from the first whistle having taken maximum points from their first three games.

Bowdon did well to prevent the opposition from scoring, as Surbiton dominated the first half. Surbiton had a number of corners they failed to score from, while Bowdon sat off and allowed the opposition to dictate play.

Two minutes before the half time whistle a Surbiton short corner took the side into the lead, with a deflection at back post.

The second half, however, was a different game altogether as Bowdon came out fighting after the half time team talk. Early on in the second half, Tina Cullen won a short corner, which was converted by a straight strike from Sally Walton. With the game up for grabs at 1-1, both teams fought hard until the final whistle, however no more goals were created and the final score remained a draw.

ON Sunday, Bowdon Men's 1st team welcomed Doncaster to South Downs Road. The large crowd was treated to an exciting first quarter that saw Bowdon start brightly, Hassan Ali and Mark Daniel scoring within two minutes of each other.

A third was added through a fortuitous Doncaster own goal and the team went in at half time comfortably on top.

The second half saw Bowdon further dominate proceedings but with nothing to show for it on the score board until the 55th minute, where a diving Landon Morley met an Alex Humphreys cross to put the game beyond doubt.

A Doncaster goal with 30 seconds to go took the gloss off a markedly improved performance, that sees Bowdon unbeaten as they enter the next phase of fixtures.

This weekend both teams are playing Olton & West Warwick, the men travelling to the Midlands whilst Bowdon Hightown play on Saturday at South Downs Road starting at 3pm.
