Ice Hockey - Manchester Phoenix 5-4 Swindon Wildcats

Manchester Phoenix 5-4 Swindon Wildcats MANCHESTER Phoenix completed a four point weekend with a narrow 5-4 win against the Swindon Wildcats on Sunday.

Tony Hand’s side, who defeated Sheffield Steeldogs 4-2 away on Friday night, returned to the Altrincham Ice Dome to complete a maximum points weekend as Phoenix look to have found their scoring touch.

On Sunday, Phoenix opened their account with a neat finish from Andy McKinney before Swindon responded with a breakaway effort from Cats’ sniper Jonas Hoog.

Man of the match Scott McKenzie restored the home sides lead almost instantly with a wrist shot goal before Michal Psurny stretched the lead to 3-1.

Matias Perkkio brought Swindon to within one before the first break, but Phoenix responded quickly in the second period with back to back strikes from Luke Boothroyd on the power-play and then a highlight goal from Ciaran Long put Phoenix in control.

But a lack of concentration from the home side allowed Swindon to pull a goal back through Aaron Nell short-handed and the deficit was reduced further when Nicky Watt netted mid-way through the final period.

Phoenix, however, held on for the points and secured their third win in a row. They will now look continue their winning run on Sunday in their only game of the weekend against Slough Jets.
