A DROP goal by Ronan O’Brien with the last kick of the game ensured Sale returned from the Wirral with their 100 per cent record intact.

Neither side managed a try in the first half as the respective defences held firm but Craig Harvey for Wirral and Andy Rowley for Sale were successful with two penalties each.

The home side started the stronger in the second half and with Sale losing a player to the sin-bin Wirral took advantage as a grubber kick through the Sale backline ended with full back James Annetts touching down and Harvey added the conversion for a 13-6 lead.

Moments later Wirral had a second chance for a try but a stunning tackle by Giles Dugdale stopped the move and Sale cleared the danger.

With 10 minutes remaining Sale moved quickly downfield and excellent work by the pack ended with a try for Danny Waddy and Rowley added the conversion to level the scores. Sale maintained the momentum and moved back into home territory through numerous phases of play and kept the pressure on the home line before O’Brien secured the win with the last kick.
