ASHTON on Mersey 1st XI completed their 2012 season with a maximum points win at Lindow.

The home side batted first after winning the toss but struggled to 36-3 with nearly half their overs gone.

The Lindow middle order pair of Taylor (52) and Jones (27) showed some resistance before the Ashton spin twins Mo Asad and Mike Roberts worked their way through the Lindow batting lineup, Roberts finishing with 4-19 and Asad 3-32.

In reply the Ashton innings was rocked by a tumble of early wickets, leaving them teetering on the brink of disaster at 11-4, before Mike Roberts joined Alex Hewet to post an unbeaten match winning century partnership. (Hewet 48 no, Roberts 44 no) This performance under pressure was one the highlights of the Ashton season.

The win lifted Ashton to 5th in the final Division 1 table.

The Ashton on Mersey 2nd XI fell to defeat in their final match against Choldmondley. Ashton 148-6 (Lee Griffiths 57, Mark Samaru 55, Peter Heaton 4-32) Cholmondley 149-2 (James Ramsden 64, Peter Shone 60).
