THE Under-13 South Manchester Cricket League cup was won this season by Brooklands against Whalley Range CC in a closely fought final.

Brooklands batted first on a slow outfield scoring 65 runs. Notable batting performance by Rudraj Singh retiring on 30.

It seemed Whalley Range were likely to beat this score after bowling and fielding so well.

Players from Brooklands showed great tactical fielding awareness under the captaincy of David Cunliffe to restrict the run rate of Whalley Range.

The exemplary bowling of Ethan Brooks bowling four overs , four wickets , five runs helped the taking of early wickets to give Brooklands a chance to turn the match around.

One notable batsman for Whalley Range Usman Butt played a mature innings to score 31 and retire.

Continued pressure from good line and length bowling plus an outstanding team effort and performance kept the Brooklands team hunting like a pack until the last over of the game.

This was bowled by Tom Lett medium pace with Whalley Range needing 10 runs to win.

Tom kept his nerve to ensure Brooklands won the match by six runs..

This is the third final in two years for Brooklands u13s, last year winning the John North Cheshire Cup, winning the Salford League but losing the final of the Salford Cup.

The team coached by Gordon Cunliffe this year and Gordon and Nick Brooks in 2011.
