Manchester hosts gathering of former Olympians

ON August 16, running legends spanning the past 50 years and 10 Olympic Games will participate in Wythenshawe Park’s popular 5k run for every ability.

Olympic steeplechaser Stuart Stokes will be among six other ex-Olympians representing 10 Olympic Games over 50 years as part of his homecoming for the final Ronhill Sale 5k Sizzler on Thursday evening at Wythenshawe Park The run will also incorporate the Northern 5k championships bringing together the North of England’s fastest men and women.

This year’s series of runs have been the most popular yet with more than 500 people of all abilities taking part.

Organisers, Sale Harriers, are hoping that the final event will see the largest number of participants complete the three mile, flat course in Wythenshawe Park.

Race organiser Fechin McCormick of Sales Harriers said: “Anybody of any ability can take part and I would encourage everyone to come along.”

The final 5km run takes place on August 16 starting at the athletic track at Wythenshawe Park at 7.30pm.
