Meller Braggins Cheshire Cricket League - Division 1

ASHTON on Mersey won a dramatic one wicket victory over rivals Hale Barns in a great days cricket at ‘The Beets’.

The Home side won the loss and reduced the visitors to 22-3 before Jake Warner and Alex Robinson dug in.

Alex Hewet removed Robinson and Mike Roberts trapped the dangerous Warner lbw for 38, before Bilal Ahmed (28) and Shivas Jogi (26) helped take the Hale Barns total to 142 all out (Hewet 3-32, Mo Asad 3-37) In reply Steve Hart and Lee Brooks (49) put on a 50 partnership but four wickets fell with the score on 81 leaving Ashton wobbling.

Matt Rhind (27) and Alex Turner repaired the damage to move the score to 122-6 before the aggressive Andy Davidson removed both players.

Ashton were still 16 runs short of their target with the last pair at the crease. But Luke Crampton and Joel Harris played superbly, with Harris hitting a four to win the game with 7 balls left. Davidson finished with 6-52 This was a great game of cricket which proved the strength in depth of the resilient Ashton on Mersey side.

The Ashton on Mersey 2nd XI (152-9) drew at Hale Barns (133-9). Ashton's 13-year-old Josh Knowles took a hat trick in figures of 4-19.
