Sale F.C. – Rugby Union – Season 2012-13
5:02pm Monday 23rd July 2012 in Sport
SALE FC are now well into their pre-season training and with fitness coach Lee Brogan conditioning the players there is no doubt that the squad will be fit and ready for the start of the coming campaign in league North One West, as they build on last season’s magnificent performances.
Attendance at training has been very high and specialist coaches have also been brought in to improve player performance in specific areas.
In early June the club announced the acquisition of two players formerly with Macclesfield, namely Tony Howcroft as player/backs coach, with former Sale FC captain Matthew Simpson also returning to Sale.
Further signings in recent weeks have added to the strength of the squad as the club prepares to field a strong and highly talented side in the coming season.
There will also be some testing pre-season matches not least the first game on August 11 when current Scottish champions Melrose RFC visit Heywood Road for the first time.
Sale have further fixtures against Waterloo (away) the following Saturday, and Rossendale (at home) four days later which will test the squad against National Three North teams.
Sale travel to Hoylake in the Cheshire Vase on August 25 and will start their league programme away to Manchester a week later.
The club probably has the best facilities of any rugby club in the North of England and currently runs three senior teams as well as an ever expanding mini and juniors section, the Sale Scorpions.
New players of all abilities are very welcome so whether your preference is league rugby or just a social match on a Saturday afternoon, contact director of rugby Richard Boundy on 07709-323107, the club on 0161-610-0400, or visit www.salefc.com.
