Urmston CC Under 15s win Lancashire Cup Urmston CC Under 15s win Lancashire Cup

URMSTON U15s became Lancashire County Champions by beating Clitheroe CC by 60 runs with a fantastic performance at the club’s Moorside Road ground last Thursday (July 5).

The team, pictured, were magnificent with bat, ball and in the field as they dominated Clitheroe to record a first County Championship title at any level for Urmston CC.

After winning the toss and batting first, skipper Matt Downes led the team from the front with an excellent 37 in a solid opening partnership of 72 alongside Callum Parkinson, who went on to make an excellent 50, as Urmston looked to set a challenging total.

Clitheroe bowled tightly on a slow wicket throughout but some excellent shots in the last few overs from Matt Parkinson (23) and Sam Dillon (18) saw Urmston post a testing total of134/2 off their 20 overs.

In reply, Clitheroe had no answer to twin brothers Matt and Callum Parkinson who, backed up by some excellent fielding, decimated the Clitheroe top order to ensure a comprehensive victory. Matt Parkinson’s leg breaks (3 for 8) in particular bamboozled the Clitheroe batsmen and ensured that their innings limped to 82/9 off their 20 overs.

The win sees Urmston progress to the last 32 of ECB National Cup, where they will face the Yorkshire Champions, West Bretton CC, in a Roses battle at Urmston on July 22. Urmston are appealing for firms to come forward to sponsor this match and the Under 15s team. For further details contact Rob Arnold at raarnold@btopenworld.com
