Ashton-on-Mersey CC – 1st XI 115 - 9 Lost to Prestbury CC – 1st XI – 117 -5

ASHTON on Mersey were well beaten by a disciplined Prestbury team whose game plan was better suited to the conditions at ‘The Beets’.

The home team's gamble of batting first on a pitch which showed the effects of the torrential rain of Friday proved too optimistic. Only a cameo of 23 from Matt Rhind helped them into the batting bonus points as they struggled to 115 -9 off 45 overs. The excellent Paul Tripp bowled unchanged to finish with 6-38 In reply the visitors found conditions equally difficult, especially against the spin of Mo Asad, who took all five wickets as the visitors slumped to 53-5.

But William Hodgson (30 not out) and Tripp (37 not out) dug in to see the visitors through to a comfortable victory. Asad finished with 5- 34.

After the success of the past few weeks Ashton were disappointed that they underperformed both with bat and ball. They will be looking to bounce back for their visit to promotion rivals Davenham next week.

The Ashton on Mersey 2nd XI match at Romiley fell victim to the weather.
