Children pass on Trafford torch

THE borough's young athletes were united in the true Olympic Spirit when the Trafford Schools Partnership staged their own torch relay.

Timed to coordinate with the real Olympic Torch travelling through Greater Manchester, Trafford's School Torch visited 60 primary, secondary and special schools across the borough with children running between each other's schools to pass on the beacon over a hectic two week schedule.

As well as a mock beacon, runners also carried real Olympic torches donated for the day by local torch bearers.

Hannah Goddard, school games manager, with The Trafford Schools Partnership, said: “Thousands of children have carried the torch and it has genuinely united so many different schools, who have had to plan and manage their handovers with different children meeting each other for the first time.”
