ALTRINCHAM Preparatory School has won the Hale Barns Cricket Club's Kwik Cricket tournament, beating leading schools from the across the region in an exciting celebration of the modern game.

Using plastic bats and soft balls, Kwik Cricket is designed to introduce the youngsters to the game without the fear of the hard ball and to encourage an uninhibited, free-hitting style.

APS qualified by beating Wilmslow Prep, Forest Park and Beech Hall in their group stage, before beating Forest in the semi-final and St. Ambrose Preparatory School in the final scoring 226 in their eight overs against 207 for their near neighbours.

bowler Dhyem Khan was APS's spin king, while the powerful hitter James Vallely was the top scorer with Ben Lee producing some superb all round cricket with both bat and ball.

APS Director of Sport Nigel Birch said: “We are grateful to the Hale Barns Club for stage managing such a fantastic event which all the boys enjoyed immensely.”
