X-Factor star to open the Summer Games

AFTER the success of the Winter games in March, up and coming young sports stars from across Greater Manchester are set to line up in the Greater Manchester Summer School Games on July 3.

More than 1800 pupils are set to compete in the Greater Manchester Summer Games across a range of sports, including athletics, netball, goalball and football at a number of Manchester’s world class sporting facilities including The National Cycling Centre and Indoor Athletics Arena.

The event will begin with an opening ceremony at the Regional Athletics Centre. I t will involve a wide variety of dance, music and artistic performances including X-Factor star and Trafford College student Misha B.

Julie Hazeldine, headteacher at Flixton Girls and chairman of the organising committee, said: “In this very special year for sport we are absolutely delighted to be part of the School Games which will give young people in our region an opportunity to showcase their sporting talent. We hope that all the pupils involved in our School Games Festival will be inspired to continue in sport throughout the year.”

Trafford schools taking part include Wellington School, Ashton on Mersey, St Hugh’s Catholic Primary, Manor High School, Brentwood, Barton Clough, Broadoak, Stamford Park Junior School, Abbotsford, Blessed Thomas Holford.
