Cricket - Trafford MV June 7 edition

THE 1st XI entertained high-flying Cholmondeley at Macpherson Park and a good all-round bowling performance saw the visitors restricted to 145-8 off their 45 overs.

Simon Pomfret, Steve Haughton, Mark Law and debutant Zai Abbas all took two wickets apiece, with Abbas in particular causing problems for the Cholmondeley batsmen.

MV then cantered to victory in less than 29 overs thanks to a superb undefeated 102 from Law. His innings contained nine 4s and five 6s as he dispatched the opposition bowling to all corners of the ground.

The 2nd XI travelled to Lindow and came away with another victory.

Colin Rothwell followed his seven wicket haul last week with another six as Lindow made 156-9 off their 45 overs. Despite losing four early wickets, Dave Lancaster and skipper Andy Kershaw guided the team home, each making undefeated half centuries.

This week local rivalries are in the air as MV go to Ashton On Mersey on Thursday in the T20 comp whilst on Friday the Clubs meets again at Under 15 level. On Sat MV travel to Cheshire CO whilst the 2nd XI entertain the same club at MacPherson Park.

The club is looking for schools in the area to encourage young players to get into the Club game early in the Summer to ensure they get a few games in knowing how unpredictable the English Summers can be !
