Stretford Cricket Club

STRETFORD’s first team cricketers experienced a weekend of despair and joy in equal measure as they were comfortably beaten at home on Saturday before staging a spectacular victory on the road on Sunday.

On the Saturday, Cheetham Hill took advantage of some poor fielding and lacklustre bowling to rack up a mammoth score of 291-8 inside 50 overs.

Stretford’s reply was instantly wrong footed as both opening batsmen, Chris and Callum Turner, were dismissed cheaply as Stretfords innings closed well short on 230 all out.

Sunday’s trip to Woodhouse was a much better performance all round, winning the toss and electing to bat first, Stretford knocked up 247-7 after 50 overs thanks to a superb innings from Chris Turner.

And a much improved bowling and fielding display from Stretford, including a first wicket in the team for Nathan Turner, meant Woodhouse never had a chance of reaching the target as they ended up on 86 all out.
