Dunham Massey 5K - Dunham Park May 25

A LARGE field turned out for the first race in this year's North Cheshire 5K Grand Prix Series.

The five race series is organised by Altrincham & District Athletic Club in conjunction with Spectrum Striders, with the other races held at Hollins Green, Bowdon and Lymm, in addition to a second race at Dunham Massey.

For the first time ever, the second Dunham race on June 14 will be run clockwise, starting at the usual finishing point on the main drive and finishing in front of Dunham Hall. This will consequently be a net downhill race and should produce some fast times.

For this first race a total of 247 runners enjoyed a warm sunny evening in the park, although a stiff wind was not conducive to fast times. Altrincham's Dave Norman was a comfortable winner of the race in 15.48 and the first woamnhome was veteran Tracy Entwistle of Warrington Road Runners in a time of 19.19.

Sixteen Altrincham runners took park and Michael Berks and Matthew Kelly had an exciting race to the finish with Michael crossing the line just inches ahead of Matthew. Josh Smith also had a good run and there was another good battle which saw Toby Percival getting the better of Shaun Jackson.

Mark Norton was back after a long injury and Ken Burgess once again picked up the over 65 prize.
