Ashton-on-Mersey CC – 1st XI 202-4 drew with Northwich CC – 1st XI – 148-9

ASHTON on Mersey had the much the better of a drawn game against visitors Northwich.

The Northwich attack settled into a good line and length and were rewarded as the home team fell to 58-3.

But the middle order pair of Alex Hewet and Lee Brooks answered the call with a superb 143 run partnership. Hewet was out in the last over for 61 with the excellent Brooks remaining undefeated on 79 in Ashton’s total of 202-4.

In reply the visitors kept up with the pace early on, but the introduction of Dan Higgins, bowling with great rhythm and accuracy, reduced Northwich to 105 -5.

A middle order recovery followed but another rattle of wickets left Northwich’s last pair hanging on in the final over.

Higgins (3-12) and Hewet (3-38) were the pick of the bowlers.

Ashton on Mersey pick up 17 points to go equal third in the table ahead of next week’s journey to table topping Weaverham.
