TRAFFORD basketballers capped off an impressive season by securing the double with victory over Cardinal Langley in last weekends Play-Off-Final Four.
Trafford Basketball Club, who train at Old Trafford Sports Barn, won the finals with victory over Cardinal by 71-56, adding to the MABL Cup they won in March in what has been a remarkable season for them.
The event, which took place at Leigh Sports Village, was comprised of the top four teams in the division, with Trafford securing their status at the event by finishing fourth in the Premier League - a remarkable achievement on its own considering it is only their fourth season in the league.
Club player, coach and manager, Ploutos Vourliotis, said: “It’s great to see the guys enjoy the game and see how much it means to them, we’re like a little family.”
On route to victory, Trafford beat league winners Preston in the semi-finals by 64-70 with Ploutos Vourliotis and Steven White joint top scorers with 18, setting up the final against league runners up, Cardinal Langley.
And a fantastic team performance helped secure victory in the final, capped off by outstanding individual play from Selim Ozen, who was top scorer with 19, and duely voted the Finals Most Valuable Player.
The achievement marks a vast improvement in recent years for the club who now believe they have what it takes to compete for the league next season.
Ploutos, 42, said: “Hopefully we can win the treble next season, we’re a team with great aspirations.”
