Altrincham and District Amateur Saturday Football League
1:51pm Tuesday 8th May 2012 in Sport
BROADHEATH Central FC wrapped up the Division Two title at the weekend thanks to a combination of their 5-1 win over Broadheath Central JFC ‘B’ and second–placed Flixton Juniors’ 6-1 defeat away at Irlam FC.
The victory for Broadheath, which came on the back of an 8-2 thrashing of Styal FC on Wednesday, leaves them with an unassailable three point lead at the top of the table.
Third-placed Irlam, who came out 1-4 winners away at APFC last week, will finish above Flixton on goal difference and guarantee themselves promotion to Division One if they win their remaining two matches (Swinton FC (h) and Broadheath Central FC (a)).
Meanwhile in the Altrincham FA Senior Cup final, Sale Town emerged victorious against AFC Quarry in a nail-biting penalty shootout. The two teams were tied at 3-3 after 120 minutes but Town held their nerve from the spot to get their hands on the much-coveted silverware. Congratulations to everyone associated with the football club.
In Division One, Sale United capitalised on Sale Rovers’ 3-1 loss at Knutsford FC by taking four points from their two fixtures. A 0-4 win away at Salford AFC on Wednesday was followed by a 1-1 draw at Kartel Sports on Saturday to maintain United’s chances of leapfrogging Rovers into fifth spot.
Three points against Sale Amateurs next weekend, in their final game of the season, will see them do just that.
In the one other game played in the top flight, Sale Town secured a seventh placed finish by beating Kartel Sports 2-1 on Tuesday. Knutsford FC’s scheduled fixture against Salford AFC on Saturday was postponed and will be played next weekend.
