THE Winston are the last ever 501 winter league champions as the Wednesday league continues to grow stronger by having a single season which will run continuously during 2012.

The league was decided when the Winston's closest challengers, Rileys, played their games in hand, a double header against the Brooklands Tap. Rileys won the first set of games 6-1 with Gary Gibson hitting a maximum 180.

However in second set of games the Tap were victorious at 4-3. Andy McCormack started them off with a 114 checkout during a 15 dart finish. Stuart Graham of Rileys hit a maximum 180 and two 15 dart legs to make the scores level at three apiece.

It was down to the captain of the Tap, Ricky Shelmadine who hit a maximum 180 himself to wrap up the win.
