Altrincham runners tackle the London Marathon

SEVEN members of Altrincham & District Athletic Club took to the streets of London for this year's marathon, held on a fine morning, perfect for running.

James Reed was the first of them home in a new personal best of 2.34.39, almost nine minutes faster than he ran last year in Edinburgh.

Paul Watson in 2.51.51 was a bit slower than in London 2011 but Vicki Perry, who was first woman over 50, was six minutes faster than last year and finished in 2.59.20 - a good omen for her attempt at the British W55 record next year.

A good run by Bev Ganose saw her record a new personal best of 3.18.34, improving on her run two years ago in London. Neil Walker finished just inside three hours 30 minutes despite slowing over the second half while Nigel Powell and Michael Stuart also completed the course.

Former Altrincham club member Amy Whitehead (nee Waterlow) was 20th in the elite somen's race in a personal best time of 2.33.44.
