Gen’Dai Shotokan karate club based in Partington and Urmston, hosted an international karate weekend, April 13 to 15.

A team from Germany came over for four days of training and social activities. Each year karate clubs from Germany, France and Ireland meet up to train with each other, share karate skills/techniques and experience a different culture.

The primary focus of the weekend is to bring children from different backgrounds together. .

Sensei Karl-Heinz Griebenow (5th Dan; Shotokan Karate-Do Seeheim) and Sensei Dave Shipton (5th Dan; Gen’Dai Martial Arts) led the training sessions and participants focused on different ways to train to maximise speed and power as well as advanced fighting techniques.

New international friendships were made and the Gen ‘Dai club have been invited over to train in Seeheim, Germany (near Frankfurt) in early April 2013.

If you would like to get involved in karate, there is a new class that has only just started at G H Carnall Leisure Centre in Urmston and will be open to men, women and children of all abilities. To find out more, contact Dave Shipton on 07771845779 or visit www.gendai.org.uk.
