AFC Quarry need just one win from their final three matches to claim the Division One title after picking up six points from their past two outings. On Wednesday, the champions elect were awarded three points from their scheduled fixture away at Broadheath Central JFC ‘A’ who failed to field a team.

At the weekend, they comfortably came out 1-5 winners away at Egerton FC. A brace for James Pearce was added to by goals from Jon Chrimes, Paul Hayes and Chris Dolan to leave Quarry a point behind the league leaders Atlantic FC with three games in hand.

Due to their superior goal difference over the table toppers (3-2 winners against Sale Town on Wednesday in their final game of the season), just a single point from their remaining fixtures will almost certainly be enough to crown them champions.

Elsewhere in the top flight, Wilmslow Sports and Sale United bounced back from mid-week defeats at Knutsford FC (3-2) and Sale Rovers (4-1) to overcome Kartel Sports (0-2) and Old Alts (4-2) at the weekend. Sale Amateurs dropped to fourth place on the back of a 2-2 draw with Salford AFC while Sale Town kept their grip on sixth place by also benefiting from Broadheath Central JFC ‘A’s failure to field a team.

Meanwhile in Division Two, Broadheath Central FC moved to within three points of league leaders Flixton Juniors after being awarded a win against APFC who failed to field a team at the weekend.

Seven points from their remaining three matches will send Broadheath up to Division One as champions. In the two other games played in the second tier, Northenden Victoria concluded their campaign with a 2-0 victory against Broadheath Central JFC ‘B’ and Styal FC shared the spoils with Irlam FC in a ten-goal thriller (5-5).

Broadheath Central FC and Irlam FC will contest the Broadheath Central Cup final after both sides came through their quarter-final and semi-final ties last week. Broadheath beat APFC (0-2) and Broadheath Central JFC ‘B’ (0-2) while Irlam overcame Swinton FC (0-2) and Flixton FC (0-1). Northenden Victoria and Styal FC were both eliminated in the last eight by Broadheath Central JFC ‘B’ (4-2) and Flixton Juniors (1-0) respectively. The final will be played at Trafford FC on Friday, April 27 (7:30 KO).
