Altrincham and District Amateur Saturday Football League

AFC Quarry moved a step closer to the Division One title at the weekend after a 3-1 win against Sale Town.

Despite trailing Atlantic FC (3-5 winners away at Egerton FC) by four points, Quarry know that eight points from their five remaining games will guarantee them the ADAFL’s biggest prize.

Elsewhere in the top flight, third-placed Sale Amateurs snatched a 2-1 victory against Knutsford FC while the champions Wilmslow Sports saw their chances of retaining the crown all but ended by a 5-4 defeat at Sale United.

In the two other games played in the top flight at the weekend, Kartel Sports came out 2-3 winners at Broadheath Central JFC ‘A’ and Sale Rovers made it four league wins on the bounce by beating Salford AFC 2-4 on their travels.

Goals from Tom Parsons, Scott Mansell, Kieran Whitehead and Alan Dolan (penalty) guided Rovers to all three points. On Wednesday, Knutsford FC drew 3-3 with Sale Town.

Meanwhile in Division Two, Flixton Juniors extended their lead at the top of the table to six points on the back of a 3-1 victory against Styal FC, however, Broadheath Central FC’s 3-6 win away at Baroni FC kept them firmly on course to win the title.

Second-placed Broadheath have three games in hand on the table toppers who have just one league game remaining.

Swinton FC, who drew 2-2 with Northenden Victoria, are no longer in the title race as a result of Flixton’s victory.

In the two other games played in the second tier, fifth-placed Broadheath Central JFC ‘B’ overcame Irlam FC 2-1 to move within a point of their opponents in the standings and ninth-placed Unicorn Athletic earned a hard-fought 3-4 win at fellow strugglers Sale Town Reserves to ensure they will finish above their opponents in the table.

In the Broadheath Central Cup, Northenden Victoria, APFC and Broadheath Central JFC ‘B’ all advanced to the quarter-finals thanks to victories against Baroni FC (1-0), Sale Town Reserves (0-1) and Unicorn Athletic (0-6) respectively.
