Manchester United pick up first silverware of season
SIR Alex Ferguson and the Manchester United squad picked up their first silverware of the season during a recent visit to St Andrews.
Visiting the Fife town for a weekend of training and golf, the team were given the opportunity to handle golf’s famous Claret Jug, awarded to the winner of The Open Championship.
The team made the short trip to Scotland to re-energise and recharge the batteries before the final title push.
Organisers of The Open Championship, The R&A, based at St Andrews, gave the players and Sir Alex Ferguson the opportunity to lift the Claret Jug, which will next be seen at Royal Lytham St Annes, which will host the 141st Open Championship this July.
The Open takes place from the 19 to 22 July and will see the game’s superstars - including Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy - compete in what is golf’s original major.
The tournament will be preceded by four practice days from the 15 to 18 July, where visitors will have the chance to see their golfing heroes in action before the Championship proper begins.
Tickets and a variety of hospitality packages are available.
