Altrincham Kersal beat Blackburn to hold onto third place

Altrincham Kersal 24 Blackburn 6

ALTHOUGH Altrincham Kersal went on the offensive from the kick off and kept play mainly in the Blackburn half, it was the visitors who were first to get points on the board when their scrum half Paul Bleasdale slotted a penalty.

But Kersal's scrum half, Peter Nicholls, went one better when he touched down for a try after a slick back movement which started at a penalty line out.

Chris Stewart's conversion and a try by hooker John Geddis gave Kersal a nine point lead. And with the Kersal second row forwards, Will Harrison and Mike Marsden, dominating, it wasn't long before Geddis was driven over again from a line out 30 yards out, to get his second touch down.

Bleasdale's second penalty and some hard running by the Blackburn threequarters, especially winger Seta Kolinisau, gave them hope but a try by Stewart to add to his two conversions sealed the victory for Kersal While the winning margin was less than when the two clubs last met, it was enough to keep Kersal in third place in the league.
