PHIL Parkinson believes he has signed a player who will ‘lift Altrincham fans off their seats’ after landing Port Vale forward Brendon Daniels on a month’s loan.

The versatile attacker, who can operate on either flank or behind the main striker, made his debut in Alty’s final pre-season game against Salford City and is in line to face Leamington in this Saturday’s National League North opener at The J.Davidson Stadium.

"I’m really excited about Brendon," said the Alty boss.

"He is just what I was looking for. We didn’t see the best of him against Salford, because he hasn’t played many minutes, but there were still glimpses of quality.

"He is someone who is going to be really creative for us, and he will score goals.

"If he shows the right attitude and endeavour, as well as ability, that one month will probably be as far as it goes.

"But if the attitude is there and we somehow have a chance of extending his stay, we will do it.

"I really believe in him, but it is down to him to show what he is all about.

"It is an opportunity for him to showcase his talents. It is something I was looking for, in terms of the quality needed for this level.

"He is a proven goalscorer, and he will excite people. I wanted to do that for our fans, bring someone in who will lift them off their seats.

"He can play anywhere across the pitch – left, right or in the number-10 role – and that means we don’t have to rush James Poole’s return from injury."

Parkinson has also ended his quest for a keeper capable of challenging Tony Thompson for a starting place after signing Elliot Wynne, who impressed for Abbey Hey against Alty in last season’s FA Cup, on non-contract forms.

"I’m glad Elliot is here, and I think he is going to put some pressure on Tony," he said.

"I didn’t think someone like Elliot was going to come along, so it’s a bonus – he has looked very competent."
