THE Manchester and District Golf Alliance organises the biggest Inter Club Knockouts of their kind in the country.

They take place over the summer months with the teams in the various events looking to make their respected finals days in September and October.

The blue riband competition is for the Dunham Forest Trophy, which features the club professional and six top amateurs in singles matchplay, and with around 100 clubs entering it is a big honour to win.

The holders of the trophy are Manchester Golf Club and now the preliminary round has been completed, in which they beat Crompton and Royton, they have been drawn at home to Dukinfield in the last 64.

The rest of the draw affecting local teams includes Ashton-on-Mersey hosting record Dunham Forest Trophy winners Leigh and Ashton pro Kris Andrew will be looking to lead his team to a giant-killing win.

The other ties include:- Ringway v Hazel Grove, Dunham Forest v Pike Fold and Tunshill v Withington.

The draw has also been made for the City Glass Men’s Foursomes which features seven pairs per team, some of who must be over 10 handicap.

The holders are Houldsworth Golf Club, who will host the 2018 final, but they made an early exit in this year’s competition going out in the preliminary round to Chapel en le Frith who now host Blackley in round one.

The rest of the draw includes: Hazel Grove v Davyhulme Park, Disley v Chorlton, Romiley v Northenden, Swinton Park v Sale, Bramall Park v Ringway, Dunham Forest v Alderley Edge and Dunscar v Altrincham.

The Archie Preston Mixed Foursomes final will be held at Shaw Hill, who won the 2017 competition, and it is now down to the last 32 in round two.

Shaw Hill have a home tie against Westhoughton and other ties include: Walmersley v Wychwood Park, Whitefield v Davyhulme Park, Haydock Park v Dunscar or Hindley Hall, Greenmount v Romiley and Bolton Old Links v Stand.

The Seniors matchplay has grown in popularity each year with Manchester Golf Club being the annual final hosts.

The holders Ashton-under-Lyne face a tough trip to Didsbury and the rest of the draw includes: Greenmount v Styal, Bolton Old Links v Northenden, Chorlton v Darwen, Westhoughton v Blackley, Bolton v Walmersley and Fairfield v Turton.

In the Williams BMW Junior Challenge (holders Manchester GC), which will see Lowes Park GC host the final, the draw for round two includes: Bolton Old Links v Rossendale and Leyland v Dunscar or Westhoughton.
