RINGWAY Golf Club’s new captain Clive Westbrook drove off in style at the traditional captain’s drive-in, screaming a great shot down the centre of the first fairway – his favourite hole at the club.

Westbrook has been a member at Ringway for eight years and has also played hockey at Wilmslow Hockey Club for 49 consecutive seasons and still plays most weeks.

He has a current handicap of 14 and a best of 11, and usually plays at Ringway twice a week while he is a keen supporter of Manchester United.

Westbrook said: “My favourite course other than Ringway is Copperhead at Innisbrook in Florida and my personal highlight in golf was to win the singles match-play knockout at Ringway in 2017.

”The charity I will be supporting is the Great Ormond Street Hospital and my chosen players to join me in a fourball would be David Holt, a lifelong friend who died of cancer last year who got me into playing golf 30 years ago, Jack Nicklaus – the greatest-ever player – and Lee Trevino, who would keep us all amused.

“Ringway is a good test of golf for all standards with plenty of competitions for all players throughout the year and is a very friendly and sociable club.”
