TRAFFORD MV battled their way to yet another narrow victory in this North Lancs/Cumbria Division with a 13-10 triumph against Aldwinians.

MV opened brightly and once again it was big winger Jamie Kingdon that crossed the white line with Pat Eccles converting easily for a promising early 7-0 lead.

Play was very tight and competitive but not very constructive from either side and Aldwinians soon showed their colours when the drove over from a driving maul.

Trafford responded with an Eccles penalty to make it 10-5.

Aldwinians were proving strong in the set-pieces while MV struggled without a recognised hooker.

With half time approaching Aldwinians had a good threatening break which surged towards the MV line.

A try seemed certain before a superb cover tackle from Chris Ward seemed to save the day for MV.

The turned-over ball should have been launched into touch but the sliced clearance fell comfortably for the visitors who crossed to level the scores to go into half time level.

The second half was 40 minutes of attritional rugby and MV had to resign themselves to uncontested scrums following the loss of hooker Bevan and then second row Luke Cox.

Aldwinians also ended the game a man down as they lost their scrum-half to a yellow card for a late tackle.

The only difference in the teams was a single penalty from Eccles early in the half for a 13-10 winning scoreline.

Trafford MV are looking to local rugby players to get in touch and join a well-organised, friendly club looking to consolidate their three senior sides as well as their host of junior sides.
