CAPTAIN Moe Rothwell inspired Urmston ladies’ seconds to a resounding 7-1 win against Bolton seconds in Division Three with a stellar four-goal display on Sunday.

She was joined on the scoresheet by Becky Dean and Charlotte O’Toole with players’ player Becky Shepherd at the heart of a solid defensive display yet again.

Goalkeeper Tamsyn Grey kept Bolton at bay with some spectacular saves when called upon and young star Isobel Seed impressed as the opposition’s player.

Stacey Bell netted twice as the ladies’ firsts shared the spoils with Wrexham Glyndwr in a hard-fought 2-2 draw in Division Two South West.

In a game of few chances, Bell kept Urmston in the fight on the back of impressive build-up play from midfield dynamo Stacey Brown.

Matt Downes opened the scoring for the men’s seconds as they beat St Helen’s firsts 2-1 on Saturday in Division Five North South.

Captain Ric Clarke netted the winner in a great performance across the team, with Sully Ahmed edging the man-of-the-match vote with a composed defensive performance.

The win keeps Urmston just two points behind second-placed St Helen’s but with a game in hand over their rivals.

The men’s firsts, meanwhile, fell 3-1 to Division Two West leaders Brooklands firsts despite Andy Power’s penalty corner consolation.

Although undone by two clinical counter-attack goals, Urmston dominated for large portions of the game and were unlucky

not to take something home from their travels.
