ALTRINCHAM 's run of eight successive home victories in the Evo-Stik Premier came to an end in an entertaining 1-1 draw with Buxton.

After two early goals, the only surprise for fans was that not one of a series of chances for both sides was converted later in the game.

The visitors took a second-minute lead – Alty keeper Tony Thompson had just made a superb save but the ball came out to Luke Hinsley, who hit an excellent low shot into the corner of the net.

The Robins did not panic and levelled six minutes later when a foul on Max Harrop gave John Johnston a free kick.

This was nodded back by Joel Bembo-Leta from beyond the back post and Josh Hancock was in the right spot to head home the equaliser.

Buxton thought they had scored a second goal but, after some delay, Ant Wilson's looping header was ruled out for offside.

Alty's Thompson was kept the busier of the two keepers and his second-half block, when Liam Hardy was put clear, was particularly impressive.

In an end-to-end second half, Buxton's defences were also almost breached when a Jordan Hulme effort had to be cleared off the line.

But neither side could make a decisive breakthrough and a draw was a fair outcome.

The result left Altrincham top of the table ahead of an FA Trophy tie at the J Davidson Stadium on Saturday, when Ramsbottom United are the opposition.
