TWO goals from Tom Russell helped Brooklands MU win 4-1 at Canterbury in the Men's Hockey League Premier Division.

The home keeper started well and looked like frustrating Brooklands as Aidan Khares’ powerful flick was well saved by his outstretched stick.

Brooklands continued to power forward with Sam Perrin, Brynn Cleak and Richard Slater hunting for goals but it remained goalless at the break.

The breakthrough came after the interval when Russell produced some individual brilliance after some nice play down the left and a back-hand one-two with Richard Slater, provided him with his first Premier Division goal.

Namibian international Cleak doubled the lead within a minute with a ferocious shot from a tight angle on the back hand and Dave Flanagan added to the score, again within a minute, picking up the rebound from a fine Slater shot to round the keeper and score.

A fourth goal came when debutant Alex Humphreys produced a sensational back-hand pass into the D where Russell capped an excellent display with his second goal.

A late consolation goal for Canterbury did not take the gloss off an excellent team performance.
