TRAFFORD MV put in a fine display but were ultimately left disappointed after a 37-32 home defeat against Aspatria in the North Lancs/Cumbria division.

The visitors began brightly and bagged a try just five minutes in, though the conversion was missed.

MV got back in the game when youngster Greg Warren did well to field a good kick and then run it deep into the Aspatria half to draw a penalty which was well struck by Pat Eccles.

From the kick off Warren was there again to feed winger Zac Crabb, who raced down the touchline from his own half for a fabulous try. Eccles added to the score with an excellent conversion.

The same scoring combination then increased the advantage.

Centre Andrew Moore then scored a try as MV looked to take a grip on the game.

But Aspatria responded well and two tries and conversions reduced the arrears to 22-19 before another score before the break turned the game around to make it 24-22 to Aspatria at the interval.

After the break, a penalty from Eccles saw MV regain the lead but another converted try for the visitors saw them behind again.

The exciting game ebbed and flowed and Trafford's fourth try, scored and converted by Eccles, saw them back in front as they secured a bonus point.

A penalty for the visitors tied the game at 32-32 and it could have gone either way at that stage.

But it was Aspatria who took the honours with a late try to seal victory and break MV hearts.

This weekend MV make the short trip to De La Salle in Salford, who went down 23-17 at Bolton last weekend.
