ALTRINCHAM Kersal firsts bounced back after a disappointing result last week to win 41-9 and secure five points at St Benedicts in North One West.

Kersal started strongly when Kashley Watkins crossed to score and Dave Coleman kicked the extras.

Benedicts kicked a penalty in response before Kersal's Matt Moss made a 55-metre break to touch down under the sticks. Another penalty for the hosts reduced the arrears before Joe Kelly crossed in the corner for Kersal.

Alex Faupel crossed the whitewash before another Benedicts penalty made it 24-9 to Kersal at the break.

Kersal remained on the front foot in the second half and scored two quick tries to take the game away from the hosts.

And Moss sealed victory to send Kersal into Saturday's home game against Stockport in good spirits.

The seconds also won on the road, beating Aldwinians 31-10 to extend their winning start to the campaign and top the table.

The forwards' contribution could be seen in open play as well, as front-rower Paul Pablo Appleton weaved his way to a try then debutant fly-half Jack Snoddy continued his scoring form after some intelligent play from a quick-tap penalty, catching the Aldwinians defence off-guard.

Stand-in scrum-half Dan Quinn capped a good game with a try himself as Tom Morris kicked three penalties and a conversion.

The thirds beat Manchester 21-17 at home to complete a good weekend for the seniors, but the Under-17 Colts lost 49-14 at Caldy.

The hosts scored early and took charge, with Kersal reduced to 14 men on 28 minutes after what seemed a very harsh yellow card for offside.

Caldy took advantage of the extra man three minutes later to score again finishing the half 17-0 in front.

Kersal came out for the second half still looking rattled, conceding three more early tries to go 32-0 down.

The yellow card count was evened on 52 minutes when the Caldy number eight was sin-binned for not releasing.

On 55 minutes Will Tabbron showed great vision to attack the Caldy line and intercept a pass at full tilt from 30 metres out to score.

But Caldy struck back within five minutes.

Altrincham kept pushing and from a well-worked move, Cormac Grieves scored and a conversion reduced the deficit before Caldy added two further tries.

The u13s played two friendlies on Sunday against Bowdon, winning one 15-10 and losing the other 15-5.

Earlier in the week they had beaten Ashton-on-Mersey away in a pre-season friendly.
