TRAFFORD'S winless start to the Evo-Stik North campaign continued with a 4-2 defeat at Kendal Town on Tuesday night.

Despite producing some of their finest football of the season in the first half, Trafford fell apart in the second period as they conceded three goals, and they are still without a win after 10 games.

In the 11th minute the hosts stormed ahead when Connor Gaul cut inside from the right and unleashed a magnificent rising drive that flew into the roof of the net but Trafford were level six minutes later when Louis Corrigan struck an in-swinging free kick from the right that was headed home at the back post by Paul Linwood.

James Dean was desperately unlucky to hit the bar from 20 yards but in the 21st minute Trafford were rewarded for their superiority when Corrigan’s corner from the right fell to Scott Sephton who half-volleyed home from eight yards.

Dean’s low drive from 20 yards was deflected wide as Trafford sought a third goal but at the other end goalkeeper Grant Shenton thwarted a thunderous drive from Charlie Bowman when he tipped the ball over the bar.

Trafford’s second-half performance was in stark contrast to the first as they allowed Kendal to dominate with right winger Gaul continually tormenting the visiting defence.

And in the 63rd minute Town levelled when Thomas clipped a neat diagonal cross into the Trafford penalty area and Bowman guided his header into the bottom corner past Shenton.

Aaron Burns then blasted a drive just over from 20 yards before Trafford were rocked in the 78th minute, Keil O’Brien apparently pushing Bowman over in an off-the-ball incident and the home striker picking himself up to ram the resulting penalty past Shenton.

Five minutes later the points were secured for Kendal when a fine cross by Gaul was headed in at the back post by Rick Seear leaving Trafford with just four points from their opening eight league games.

It was a second defeat on the road in five days after a 3-1 reverse at second-placed Ramsbottom United last Friday night.

Rammy caught Trafford with a sucker punch on the half hour when they broke away down the left and Jerome Wright netted after Shenton had blocked his first effort.

Greg Daniels shot straight at Shenton in the 41st minute but two minutes later Trafford levelled when the hosts failed to clear a left-wing corner and Sephton pounced to drive the ball low into the far corner.

The visitors were buoyed by this equaliser and started the second half in control.

However, they fell behind in the 59th minute when a low cross by Kyle Brownhill was missed by everyone in the penalty area and Shenton was unsighted as the ball somehow found its way into the bottom corner.

Trafford were visibly rocked and Rammy poured forward in search of further goals, substitute Tom Williams seeing his ‘goal’ ruled out for offside and Shenton saving a diving header by Jamie Rother.

In the 84th minute Rammy secured the points when Wright pulled the ball back from the goal-line and Max Hazeldine glanced his header past Shenton and inside the far post.

Tom Baker’s side will be confident of breaking their duck on Saturday when they entertain basement outfit Goole FC at the First Point Shawe View Stadium, kick off 3pm.
