OLD Stretfordians hit the top of Lancashire and Cheshire Amateur Football League Division One with a 7-0 win against Moston Brook.

Strets' finishing proved to be too hot for Brook to handle as the goals flowed from Joe Mullarkey, assisted by Billy Lane, Alex Ritchie, with help from Rowl Gordon, and Nicholas Jones (two) to have Strets untouchable at 4-0 on 50 minutes.

In the other game played in the division, Milton won their local derby at Oldham Vics 4-2 to move into third.

Salford Vics seconds remain at the top of Division B after an efficient 4-1 win against Rochdale Galaxy and High Lane seconds were also on form as they demolished Signol thirds 7-0.

There were plenty of goals at Milton seconds as they lost by the odd goal in 11 hosting Hillgate.

The other game saw Trafford United seconds win 3-1 against Bury Ams seconds.

The opening day of the season for Division C almost proved to be a total washout with the only game beating the weather seeing Deans beat Old Stretfordians seconds 4-1.

Division D fared better on its first day with the top score coming from AFC Oldham fourths in a 7-0 win against Moston Brook fourths.

Bury Ams thirds won 4-1 at AFC Stockport and Staly Lions opened their account with a 3-1 win at Stoconians fourths.

The other game at Flixton Park was a real end-to-end thriller with great goals and defensive errors producing a 4-4 deadlock.

The top result of the day came from Premier Division new boys Signol Athletic, who recovered well from a big defeat last week by Whalley Range to win their Cheshire Amateur Cup tie against West Cheshire giants Heswall 3-1.

Stoconians also gave a good account of themselves only losing 1-0 at Wirral SB in the same competition.

Limited Premier Division action saw Moorside Rangers join High Lane on points at the top of the table.

In a frantic game at Newton Heath, Rangers emerged with a 4-3 win in a game that ebbed and flowed thanks to goals from Goodman, Sixsmith and Brown (two).

The other game saw Abacus Media win 3-1 against Old Ashtonians with the win taking Abacus up to third.

Division Two saw Spurley Hey in great form as they ended the unbeaten start in the league by Moston United.

Hey took the lead with strikes from Dave Bennett and Michael Ogden before United pulled one back before the break.

Ogden restored Hey’s two-goal advantage just after the break with a stinging free kick that left the Moston keeper grasping thin air.

Bennett increased the lead 10 minutes later and although Moston pulled a goal back with 15 minutes to go and applied tremendous pressure, Hey stood firm for a win that takes them into third.

The other game in the division produced a comfortable 7-2 win for South Manchester seconds at Swinton.

Division Three had a day of full action with all games played and Tameside teams enjoyed a good day with Dukinfield Athletic edging a close 3-2 win against Newton Heath seconds to remain at the top on goal difference from new boys Dom Doyle, who were 2-0 victors at Manchester Polonia.

Heaton Mersey were on good form with a 7-3 win at Irlam Tigers and Santos were also hot in a 5-1 win at Moston Brook seconds.

Hooley Bridge Celtic seconds also went nap in a 5-3 win against Hollingworth.

Signol Athletic seconds made it a good day for the club as they hit the top of Division A with a fine 2-0 win against Moorside Rangers seconds.

Chadderton Park were good value for a 5-1 derby win at Moston Brook thirds and Aldermere were also in the comfort zone after a 4-1 win against Hargreaves Bury.

The other game between Village Manchester and Mellor thirds was settled as Mellor scored the only goal of a tight game after just 10 minutes.
