FLIXTON Fire completed the first leg of what they hope will be a double this season after they overcame local rivals Stretford Spitfires to win the Greater Manchester Cricket League T20 competition.
Despite the difference in league positions – Flixton are top of the Premier Division while Stretford are struggling towards the bottom of Division One – both teams knew they would be in for a tight game.
And so it proved as, batting first, Flixton reached their lowest score of the competition, 101-9 from their 20 overs, with Johan Wessels (34 not out) the major contributor.
This was down to some excellent Stretford bowling.
In reply, a blend of excellent fielding and tight bowling restricted the Stretford team to 93-8 from their 20 overs.
Flixton will now look to build on this win to finish the league season strongly.
