TRAFFORD'S James Guy is celebrating medal success in the Swimming World Championships.

The 21-year-old won three medals - a gold, a silver and a bronze - at the championships in Budapest.

He bagged an individual bronze in the 100m butterfly, a silver in the 100 medley relay and put in a starring performance as defending champions Great Britain claimed gold in the 200m freestyle relay.

In the 200m freestyle relay he produced the fourth fastest time over 200m in history to overtake Russia and the USA and claim gold.

James told the BBC after the swim: "We are world champions - it is great to have that title back again."

In the 100m medley relay James swam the third butterfly leg for Great Britain. It was the final race of the championships and afterwards he said: "What can I say, what a great end to the week."

BBC pundit Mark Foster chose James' performances in the relays as his highlight of the championships.

He paid tribute to him, saying he produced even more when swimming in the relays: "It gives him that extra edge. He does not want to let anyone down."

At last year's Olympics James won two silver medals in relay races and also has an impressive collection of medals from World, European and Commonwealth championships.

James grew up in Hale and was a pupil at Forest Preparatory in Timperley. He started his swimming career at Sale with Trafford Learn to Swim scheme.

When he was 13, James won a scholarship to Millfield School, Somerset.
