TIMPERLEY Cricket Club’s first XI had a forgettable weekend with two losses to Didsbury on consecutive days.

In the Cheshire County Cricket League Premier Division on Saturday, Timperley decided to bat and were soon ruing that decision at 26-3.

Opener Danny Cooper once again played well for 51 with other mainstays of the innings being provided by Craig Grindley (26), Nathan Brown (44) and a run-a-ball 60 not out from Rudi Brenner in the tail to allow Timperley to close on 218-9 off 55 overs.

In reply, Didsbury lost Tim Hughes off the first ball of the innings but recovered well with Jack Rudd (82) and Simon Normanton (79) scoring most of the reply of 220-6 in 42.3 overs, Brenner taking 3-65.

On Sunday, Timperley travelled to Hyde CC for the T20 finals day to play Didsbury in the first semi-final.

Electing to field, Timperley saw Didsbury post a gettable 170-7.

In reply, Timperley’s top order imploded to reach 6-4. Brown played well for 52 along with Ed Galley (31) in seeking recovery but it was to no avail as Timperley were all out for 139.

The seconds defeated Didsbury in a tight finish.

Batting first Timperley posted 240-8 in 47 overs with Rob Pratska (63) and Shan Khan (41) the principal contributors.

In reply, Didsbury scored 238 all out with Andy Horsfield being the pick of the bowlers with 4-62.

The third XI played Ashley and comfortably chased down 146 all out, winning by five wickets with 10 overs to spare. Girish Huzurbazar played well for 49 before captain Martin Porthouse shepherded the team home with 34 not out.

The fourths played Appleton and won comfortably by 10 wickets chasing 87, Raja Padidela (27) and Mahesh Natarajan (49) smashing it around to win inside 12 overs.

On Sunday, the fifth XI played Woodford and drew. Batting first Timperley scored 167-7 in 40 overs with Amin Hashmi top scoring with 53.

In reply, Woodford were 141-9 with teenagers Aayosh Nanda and Aadam Hasan taking three wickets apiece to nearly force victory.
