THE Lancashire and Cheshire Amateur Football League is planning for another successful campaign.

The league is one of the oldest and biggest Saturday amateur football leagues in the country and their management committee have been busy making preparations for the new season, which begins next month.

Last season the league had close to 100 teams playing in eight divisions with nearly 3,000 players involved.

League chairman Mike Yates said: “We are pleased to welcome some new teams into the league and hope that they will enjoy their experience.

“They are Irlam Tigers, Radclyffe AFC (based in Failsworth), Moston United, Dukinfield Tigers and Denton-based Dom Doyle FC and we will try to fit them in a division suitable to their playing records and ambitions.

“The league are also welcoming sponsors for their cup competitions and we are delighted that Peak Business Solutions will be sponsoring the Whitehead Cup – any business or individual wishing to offer sponsorship can contact the league secretary Brian Davies via the email secretary@landc.org.uk.

“The president for the coming season is Graham Ellis, who has been involved in the league for many seasons as a referee and management committee member and he is looking forward to the new challenge of his role.”
